Port Colborne - Canadian Corps

Location:  Niagara Region   N 42 52.883  W 79 14.978
70 West Street, Port Colborne, in front of the meeting hall.

The Canadian Corps was originally formed to partially help the veterans of the Battle of Hong Kong.  At one time there were hundreds of corps across Canada, but due to dwindling membership, there are now only seven remaining in Ontario.  Here in Port Colborne, Unit 43 is growing strong and membership is up.  Unit 43 is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, and this club is not only a social club for the old veterans, but welcomes new members and takes an active role in the community with several events.  Six years ago the membership was struggling, and in 1988 the original clubhouse burned down and all artifacts were lost.  The community group came back stronger than ever and is now flourishing.
Outside of their current meeting place, is a stone marker placed to recognize the major wars that Canada has participated in.  Unit 43 also works closely with the Port Colborne Legion, to place flags on all veterans graves in the city.

Cache Bay

Location:  Nipissing District   N 46 22.275  W 79 59.291
At the corner of Railway Street and Booth Street.

On the north shore of Lake Nipissing sits the small village of Cache Bay, along with their cobblestone cenotaph.  It was erected in 1950, and dedicated on November 11th of the same year.  This memorial is somewhat unique, with a built in lampost right into the stone cairn, which can still be lit to remember the men of this close knit community, who gave their lives in the wars.  Their names are forever remembered on a brass plaque.

Clinton - Royal Canadian Legion

Location:  Huron County   N 43 36.758  W 081 32.186
On the outside wall of the Legion, at 95 Kirk Street.

This memorial on the wall outside the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 140, consists of two plaques, each dedicated to the First and Second World Wars.  The plaques list the names of the men of Clinton who gave their lives in each of the World Wars.
Once again as with many small town memorials, the long list of names far exceeds expectations given the size of the town.  Clinton also played a key role in the Second World War as home of the first training school for the new technology of Radar.

Stirling

Location:  Hasting County   N 44 17.797 W 77 32.823
On the south side of Mill Street, just east of the main intersection.

This wonderful memorial was first commissioned in 1921, on the initiative of the Stirling Horticultural Society.  It was proudly unveiled in 1927 with great fanfare, by Brig. Gen. A.E.Ross CMG, and the band of the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment, along with the citizens and dignitaries of the region.
After the Second World War, it was re-furbished and re-dedicated once again.
A beautiful gardens and mural add to the grandeur and importance of this cenotaph.
