Lindsay has long been a bastion of military support, playing host to the storied Midland Regiment and the incomparable Sir Sam Hughes.  The cenotaph, located in front of the public library is proud to honour the brave men of this area who fought in the World Wars.  Originally erected after the First World War, the names of the dead are engraved on the back of the marble shaft.  After the Second World War, a second slab of stone was added at ground level with the names of those lost in the that conflict, and finally one last name was added after the Korean War.
A bronze statue of a resting soldier stands tall on top of the beautiful monument.  The sides of the cenotaph list the names of many of the famous battles of the Great War.

This memorial is a reminder of the dedication of local citizens and members of the Legion, to honour those who served and died in the name of our country.  The memorial located here, beside St. Luke's United Church, was dedicated by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #328, of Northbrook Ontario, along with heartless work and devotion by member James Wright, as well as local communities.  A side plaque is dedicated to Mr. Wright and the Legion, for making this cenotaph a reality.  Thank you to all who made it possible.

On the grounds of the museum, north side of Midlothian Road.
 

I was always very impressed that a small community like this would still go to the trouble to raise a memorial for one lone soldier, who fought and died in the Great War.  The memorial was erected by the residents of Ryerson Township, for a young man, Douglas Wiseman, who had attended this one room school in his youth., and a few short years later, died in action at Cambrai.  The school is now the home of the Burk's Falls and District Horticultural Society Museum.  Private Wiseman was a member of the 102nd Battalion of the Canadian Infantry.  He is buried in Bucquoy Road Cemetery in France.

In the park on Adelaide Road at the corner of Helen Street.
 

This traditional memorial represents the Township of Caradoc, and honours the men of the area who made the supreme sacrifice in World War I.  A statue stands tall at the top of this beautiful memorial.  The front lists the names of the dead, and the back of the memorial lists those lost in the Second World War and Korea.
I was surprised at how tall this grand cenotaph stands above the park, the children playing nearby in peace in the park's playground.
