Frankford
Location: Hastings County N 44 12.030 W 77 35.880
On the north side of Mill Street, east of Scott Drive.
This tall memorial rests in front of a senior's apartment, and seems to face the wrong direction. A very nice stone shaft, engraved with the names of those lost in the Great War, and later added the names of those lost from the Second World War. The front of the memorial faces west, into a small grove of trees, although the side with the names faces the street. Perhaps when the memorial was first erected, the layout of nearby buildings was different. Once again, as with most small town memorials, the sacrifice and loss was much greater in the First World War than the Second.
Tomorrow, April 9th, marks the 99th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, Canada's biggest fight, and a number of these brave men were lost on that fateful day in 1917.
Thank you to all those heroic souls from this town and across the country, whose daring efforts led to the victory at Vimy.
