Scheiber

At the corner of Scotia Street and Winnipeg Street.
 
This memorial, located beside the Schreiber Railway Museum, is centered in a  small park with loads of history.    A pair of Ontario Historic Plaques can also be found in the park.  The town was founded on the back of the the railroad, first being established as a camp for railway workers building the Canadian pacific Railway, then as a terminal for all rail traffic passing through northern Ontario, and even being named after a railroad engineer, Sir Collingwood Schreiber.  The town has always has rugged roots, with mining and forestry being other local industries, the men of this area know how to work and toil to make life better, perfect for soldiers heading off the fight in the Great War.  During World War II, Schreiber was the site of one of four work camps for Japanese-Canadian internees.  Several POW camps for Axis prisoners where also located nearby.  The memorial itself is a tribute to the brave soldiers from this area who went to war and never returned, their names listed a tribute to the sacrifices made by even the most remote and smallest towns in the country.
