Moose Creek is one of
six communities of North Stormont, where you can find a little of everything. From this small
village you can get easily to many big cities or smaller towns and communities.
Residents in the area believe that the
name of their village was coined by hunters. There is a miniature waterfall
that rarely freezes over completely and the moose followed the creek to get to
this drinking hole and of course, the hunters too. To distinguish the different
waterways it became known as Moose Creek
Moose Creek acquired its own cenotaph
in 1995. Construction began August 10th, 1995, and was dedicated on
October 28, 1995 just in time for the 50th anniversary of the end of World War
2. Situated on the left side of the fire department, this beautiful simple
cenotaph, hard to photograph without having my shadow shown, is made of black
granite. Flanked by 2 flagpoles, a brick pathway leads and invites you to
read the bilingual dedication and pay your respects. It is adorned with 5
crests: Army, Air Force, Combined Services Crest, Navy and Merchant Navy.
Although no names appear, this monument is dedicated to all who served and gave
their lives from WWI, WWII, Korean War and Peacekeeping.
