Ontario War Memorials: Apple Hill

Situated in a small community in Eastern Ontario and like many small communities, that I drive through in a blink of an eye, many times I was surprised that such a small place would have a cenotaph. Although not so far from Alexandria, Maxville, Lancaster and Cornwall, no need for the locals to travel for Remembrance Day Services as Apple Hill has its own cenotaph dedicated to the memory of those from Martintown, Apple Hill, Monkland and district who gave their lives.

In memory of the locals who served in WWI, WWII and Korea, Apple Hill's cenotaph is located just in front of a clinic. Halfway from the curb to the cenotaph are two flagpoles with the provincial and national flags. Beautiful flowers adorn the memorial and on the side is an old weathered wreath, most probably from the previous year's Remembrance Service that I had to put back on its stand out of respect and for photographic purposes.
