Location: City of London N 42 59.312 W 81 14.914
In the centre of Victoria Park, 509 Clarence Street.
A beautiful statue located in the centre of Victoria Park, this wonderful monument pays tribute to the men of London who fought and fell in South Africa during the 1899-1902 conflict. The monument is topped with a bronze statue of a British Empire soldier along with a maiden of peace reaching up to offer him an olive branch of peace.
The names of the major battles of that war and the names of the dead are forever carved into the granite stone base. Originally erected in 1912, this memorial was re-dedicated in 2000, when additional plaques were added to commemorate the Royal Canadian Regiment.
One of the most striking and beautiful memorials to be found in Ontario, in stark contrast to the horrors of the South African battles that claimed so many young lives.
