Grimsby

Location:  Niagara Region     N 43.19334   W -79.56610

Beside the Grimsby Museum at 120 Main Street West.

This memorial was erected by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 127.  It was dedicated in September 2000, by Brigadier-General  Denis Whitaker of the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry, a veteran of World War II.  The tall red granite cenotaph lists the major wars and conflicts of the Canadian Forces throughout the years.  Two black granite plinths are found beside the main structure and each of these list the Roll of Honour of the names of those lost and those who served in the two World Wars.  The area is well-taken care of and sits proudly beside the Grimsby Museum.

Location:  Niagara Region     N 43.19316   W -79.57040

On the north side of County Road 81, also known as 154 Main Street West.  On the grounds of St. Andrew's Anglican Church.

This memorial proudly stands in front of the former St. Andrew's Anglican Church.  It was erected in 1920 to honour the members of this church that gave their lives in the Great War.  The tall marble monument is topped with an elegant cross.  The base has the names of those who lost their lives permanently engraved in the stone.  Beside the cross stands a second smaller pillar with a brass sundial at the top and the names of those lost in World War II engraved on one side.

Russell

Location:  United Counties of Prescott and Russell

N 45.25957    W -75.35841

Beside the Legion, at the corner of 1st Avenue and 24 Legion Lane.

Russell's Royal Canadian Legion Br. 372 is in itself a memorial dedicated to three local men who died within a few weeks from each other in September 1943. Inside the building named the Long-Twiname-Henderson Memorial are some memorabilia of WWI, WWII and some personal belongings of the three soldiers who are honoured. Also a quilt inside, on which every poppy represents the names inscribed on the cenotaph at front of the building. One of the most interesting displays is a frame that honours Stuart Long, Eric Twiname and Gordon Henderson.

The cenotaph itself stands beside the Legion and proudly lists the names of the men from this community who lost their lives at war.  The grey granite stone is in very good condition and well cared for by the Legion members.

Special thanks to Louise Bellec for the photos and description.
