Toronto - Harbord Collegiate Institute

Location:  City of Toronto     N 43.66066   W -79.93690

In front of the school, 286 Harbord Street.

This memorial was erected in 1921, thanks to the staff and students of Harbord Collegiate Institute who raised funds at the time to honour those from the school who served and died in World War I.  Over 500 students and staff from Harbord Collegiate served in the Great War, sadly 78 of those did not return.  The original plaques listed only 75 names, but research found the names of 3 others that where added in 2014.  The name of the sculptor, Geo. W. Hill, is etched into the base of the statue.

The memorial proudly stands at the front entrance of the school, for all to see as a reminder of the sacrifices made by those brave staff and students who died while fighting for freedom, so young with their lives ahead of them, they chose to defend their King and country.
