Mildmay

Location:  Bruce County   N 44 02.509  W 081 07.163
On the south side of Absalom Street West, just east of Elora Street.

This memorial remembers the men of Mildmay and Carrick who gave their lives in the World Wars and Korea.  Originally erected with a single granite stele shortly after the Great War, the park was largely renovated in 1951 and two more granite steles added to honour those who died in the Second World War.  At that time the sidewalk, drinking fountain and landscaping where added to create the pleasant memorial park which we share today.

CFB Trenton - Camp Mirage Monument

Location:  Hastings County,  Located inside the National Air Force Museum at CFB Trenton.

This date, March 12 2014, will live in history as the final day of Canada's mission in war-torn Afghanistan.  Given the significance of the day and the history that has been made by our forces in Asia, it is only fitting to highlight this monument, which once stood at Camp Mirage, the main military base in Southeast Asia.  All of our brave soldiers who died in Afghanistan and were repatriated back to their homeland, passed through Camp Mirage.

The monument stood at the Camp from 2006 until its closing in late 2010.  The cairn is a three-part pyramid style structure made of granite.  The names of each and every repatriated soldier is remembered on this monument in the form of a brass plaque.

The Camp Mirage monument was itself repatriated here, to CFB Trenton and a place of honour inside the National Air Force Museum, in July of 2011.  The unveiling ceremony hosted many high ranking dignitaries including National Defence Minister Peter McKay.  "It's a powerful symbol that honours Canada's fallen sons and daughters that are often referred to as Canada's greatest citizens." said McKay.

"It is fitting that the Camp Mirage Monument is finally here in Trenton on the same route that all of these personnel take when going home."  said McKay.

“It’s a powerful symbol that honours Canada’s fallen sons and daughters that are often referred to as Canada’s greatest citizens,” said MacKay - See more at: http://www.qnetnews.ca/?p=10399#sthash.zbRzmn8G.dpuf

Richmond Hill

Location:  York Region   N 43 52.421  W 079 26.260
On the west side of Yonge Street, south of Arnold Crescent.  In front of the old Richmond Hill Public School.

The village of Richmond Hill first erected this impressive memorial in 1923, in honour of those who died and served in the Great War.  It was later expanded to include those lost in the Second World War, and once again restored in 1994.  The main part of the memorial is a large colonnade with the inscriptions of those lost, the second part is a pentagonal shaft with the names of those who fought and returned.  A garden of tulips is found immediately behind the memorial, which adds a colourful beauty to this already outstanding cenotaph of remembrance.

Haliburton

Location:  Haliburton County   N 45 02.742  W 078 30.684
On the north side of Highland Street, at the triangular corner of York Street.

The memorial in the village of Haliburton is found downtown on a widened part of the sidewalk.  A very attractive and unique memorial, a tall stylized stone with a brass rifle and helmet adorn the front, while a brass plaque bearing the names of the men lost appears on the back.
Nearby the memorial are found a captured German machine-gun and a mortar, both of World War I vintage.  A bench along the walkway provides a chance to rest and remember, or take in a pleasant view of the lakefront below.
