London - Forest Lawn Cemetery

Location:  City of London     N 43.00640   W -81.16720

At the entrance to the cemetery, 2001 Dundas Street.

This memorial is found just inside the gates of the Forest Lawn Cemetery.  It consists of a black granite stele with appropriate words of remembrance for those who served in the World Wars and Korea.  Flanking the memorial is the veterans plot with dozens of markers of former servicemen and women who bravely performed their duties for their country. All grave markers in this section are lying flat on the ground.  A single Canadian flag marks the plot.

Kemptville - Veterans Commemorative Park

Location:  United Counties of Leeds and Grenville     N 45.08194   W -75.63154

The park is located a few kilometres north of Kemptville, just of Highway 416 at Rideau River Road.

Veterans Commemorative Park was erected in 2000 by the Royal Canadian Legion to honour those who served Canada during war and peace.  The memorial consists of three granite stele, a tall flagpole and appropriate landscaping.   What struck me most was how isolated this location seemed to be, next to a little used highway on-ramp, well out of town, not near anything that would bring anyone to the site.  Still, it is good to have any new memorials to recognize the contributions of our veterans.  Thank you.
