Burford
Location: Brant County N 43 06.040 W 80 25.548
On the east side of Park Avenue, beside the fairgrounds.
A very attractive fieldstone cairn, honours those who made the supreme sacrifice in defence of our country.
The memorial is situated in a small parkette, surrounded by a white fence. It was erected by Branch 543 of the Royal Canadian Legion, dedicated on June 11, 1967.
There are two plaques on the face of the memorial, the first is the general tribute to all those who from Burford Township who died for their country. The second smaller plaque is a personalized honour of an airman, on behalf of his family.
I tried a different photographic technique with this memorial, and the light was fading at the time. Not my usual clear results, just something different.

Hepworth
Bruce County: N 44 38.079 W 81 08.031
On the west side of Highway 6, at Sophia Street.
This beautiful fieldstone cairn is found in Veterans Park, which was "commemorated in the year 2002, in honour of those who served their country in wartime and peacekeeping throughout the world", so says the plaque at the entrance to the park. The park is well taken care of, the stone memorial stands out clearly from the area, with its flowers and shrubs, benches for rest and reflection, and three flagpoles with new flags.
Well done Hepworth, a top notch memorial to your fallen sons.

Campbellford
Location: Northumberland County N 44 18.628 W 77 47.996
On the east side of Queen Street, north of Bridge Street.
On of the most impressive small-town cenotaphs I have seen. The white stone shining in the bright sun, in a pretty setting alongside the river. The memorial was first erected in 1926, by the local I.O.D.E., for a cost of $5,000. Community fundraising efforts were tremendous in those days, in an effort to honour those lost in the Great War.
This glorious monument was restored and rededicated in 2009, with names being added that were omitted when it was first constructed.
The names of the those lost in the two World Wars and Korea are engraved in the massive stone, while two additional plaques list the names of those who served during the major conflicts. For a full list of names of those who served and died, please refer to this website: http://www.trenthills.ca/en/community/veterans.asp

Barry's Bay - Zurakowski Park
Location: Renfrew County N 45 29.314 W 77 40.664
On Highway 60, at Kelly Street.
Welcome to the home of Janusz Zurakowski, the lead test pilot for the incredible Avro Arrow. This memorial park is dedicated to both Mr. Zurakowski and the Arrow. Most of us know the history of the Avro Arrow, so I will not delve into the ill-fated story here, we all have our own tears to bare.
Janusz Zurakowski led a busy and glorious life by all accounts. Born in Poland in 1914, he lived in many countries, fought gloriously in the Second World War, and retired to Barry's Bay after his test pilot years. More of his illustrious life and history can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janusz_%C5%BBurakowski
The memorial features a statue of Mr. Zurakowski, a replica Arrow, a Spitfire weathervane, and several story boards to explain his story and that of the Arrow. This is an excellent and well-done display, a must see for all travellers and lovers of the Avro Arrow. The park opened July 26, 2003, shortly before he passed away in 2004.
An excellent website to visit can be found here: http://www.zurakowskipark.ca
