Napanee
Location: Lennox and Addington County N 44 15.102 W 76 56.973
On Thomas Street East, in front of the museum, at Adelphi Street.
A bright white marble memorial stands in front of the old Napanee Town Hall, now the Leeds and Addington County Museum. This is a grand sight, both the historic building and the beautiful memorial dedicated to those from this county who died in the Great War. The names of the dead are engraved on all four sides of this impressive monument. Those who died in the Second World War are remembered on a stone placed in front of the cenotaph, much like that found in the cenotaph in Lindsay. On each side is also found a stone bearing the Union Jack flag and the battles fought in the Great War. On the top of the memorial is a bowl containing the eternal flame of remembrance, which was not lit when I visited,...no comment. A smaller stone at the rear of the memorial recognizes the Korean War.
All in all, I was very impressed with this memorial and the great contribution of the men of this area.
