Mount Forest

Location:  Wellington County     N 43 58.659     W -80 43.751
In Veteran's Memorial Park, corner of Main Street South (Highway 6) and Parkside Drive.

Very lovely memorial dedicated to the men and women of Mount Forest who gave their lives for their homeland in the World Wars.  In Veteran's Park, there is also a gun from a M109 Self-propelled Howitzer and a beautiful wood carving with a verse from the famous poem "In Flanders Fields".
The local branch of the Royal Canadian Legion #134 looks after the memorial and they have done a magnificent job at keeping everything in good condition and relevant.  Among the names of the lost heroes on the memorial are two Victoria Cross winners - Capt. F.W. Campbell V.C. and Lt. S. Lewis Honey V.C.  The layout of the plaques is somewhat confusing as to which wars they refer to, but I think I have sorted it out on my own. It appears that the upper plaques are for WWI and the front, lower plaques are WWII.  Once again I am overwhelmed at the level of care and remembrance from a small town towards its brave heroes.
