Sharon

Location:  Region of York, East Gwillimbury  N 44 06.152  W 079 26.520                                       Found on the west side of Leslie Street, at Mount Albert road, in front of the East Gwillimbury Town Offices, beside the Sharon Temple.

This memorial symbolizes a grieving mother with a child in her arms. It is intended to be a peace memorial rather than a war memorial. Colonel F.A. Tilston, V.C., C.D., LLD. unveiled the memorial on September 16, 1990, with numerous dignitaries in attendance from the Armed Forces, veterans, representatives of federal and provincial governments as well as regional mayors and other dignitaries. The statue was created by a man from Holland, symbolizing all the suffering of a country at war, but it also symbolizes our hope for peace in the future. It is placed prominently in front of the Civic Centre to remind citizens of the supreme sacrifice made by those whose names appear on the memorial.                                                                                   Source: www.town.eastgwillimbury.on.ca/tourism/rememday.htm
