Oakland

Location:  Brant County     N 43 03.078   W -80 20.293

In front of the Legion, 72 King Street North.

This memorial is unique in that the sculpture is in the form of the shape of Canada.  Situated in front of the Royal Canadian Legion South Brant Branch #463, the memorial pays tribute to those who gave, with a metal plaque featuring the words of the famous poem "The Silence".   No wars or names of those lost are found on this monument, simply a thought of Remembrance.

An interesting fact, the last time Canada fought on its' own soil against a foreign power was in the County of Brant?  It's true...Malcolm Mills, which lies within the village of Oakland, was the site of the last battle between the American and British troops on Canadian soil in the War of 1812.

I have never seen another memorial in this style, making the small farming village of Oakland a place to remember in so many ways.  Another little treat to be found here is the captured German machine gun on display behind the monument.

Osgoode

Location:  City of Ottawa     N 45.144306    W -75.603360

3282 Sunstrum Street, in front of the Legion.

Originally part of Osgoode Township, now part of Ottawa since the amalgamation in 2001.  Osgoode used to be called Osgoode Station then has its name shortened to Osgoode in 1962.

This memorial is situated in front of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 589.  A sidewalk starting from the parking lot leads to it. It is flanked by 2 trees and flagpoles with the Canadian flag on the left and the Ontario flag on the right.  From there you can see a painting of a field of poppies and a board saying WE WILL REMEMBER THEM on the wall of the building. You can see under the words a ship, a tank, and an aircraft.  A few feet from the wall, there is a silhouette of a fence and a soldier kneeling at a grave of a fallen comrade. That silhouette is just made of plywood.

***Thank you once again to Louise Bellec for providing the photos and description.

The stele itself is just a simple one with a cross on it, At the base of it there is a piece of stone with the  words " IN REMEMBRANCE (flanked by a maple leaf  on each side).

                  WWI                WWII

The concrete base of the memorial has the words "LEST WE FORGET" engraved and painted in black.

Orillia - Veterans' Memorial Park

Location:  Simcoe County     N 44 36.622   W -79 24.705
On Lakeview Avenue, across from the Legion.
This memorial sits at the entrance to Veterans' Memorial Park, located across Lakeview Avenue from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 34.  A beautiful place to visit in the summer months, the popular waterfront can be a busy place.  The memorial lists the names of all those from Orillia who died in the World Wars.  On the front is a metal plaque dated 1920, mounted on the white granite stone.  The plaque must have been located elsewhere before this recent memorial was erected in 2015. On the back, engraved in the stone, are the names of those lost in World War II.  A tall, nautical type of flagpole marks the memorial from a distance.
