THEY WENT WITH SONGS TO THE BATTLE, THEY WERE YOUNG,

STRAIGHT OF LIMB, TRUE OF EYE, STEADY AND AGLOW,

THEY WERE STAUNCH TO THE END AGAINST ODDS UNCOUNTED,

THEY FELL WITH THEIR FACES TO THE FOE.

THEY SHALL GROW NOT OLD, AS WE THAT ARE LEFT GROW OLD;

AGE SHALL NOT WEARY THEM, NOR THE YEARS CONDEMN,

AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING,

WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.

(133rd BATT. CREST)

The 133rd Norfolk's Own Overseas Battalion

of the Canadian Expeditionary Force under the command of Lt.-

Col. A. C. Pratt was enlisted largely from the 39th Norfolk

Rifles of the Canadian Militia in November 1915.

They trained at Camp Borden in the spring of 1916 and sailed

from Halifax on the S.S. Lapland October 30th 1916 with a

strength of 680 officers and men.

Early in 1917 in England the Battalion was disbanded and the

members assigned to other Canadian units, most of which served

in France and Belgium.  A combined total of over 100 lives

were lost from the Battalion in the following battles.

YPRES - VIMY RIDGE - HILL 70

PASSCHENDAELE - AMIENS - ARAS - CANAL DU NORD

CAMBRAI and MONS

Their devotion and service has secured an honoured place for

them in the history of Norfolk County.
