Location: City of Ottawa N 45.15290 W -75.64862
On the west side of Rideau Valley Drive, in front of the public school.
The village of Kars is located south of the city of Ottawa, along the historic Rideau River. The memorial was erected in 1978, and then moved to this location in 2011. The cenotaph consists of a stylized sword formed into a cross and a simple message of "To Those Who Served" inscribed on its base. A series of engraved paving stones located in front of the memorial list the names of the fallen, as well as those who served. The stones can be purchased with the engraving at the family's request, this in turn helps to fund the maintenance of the memorial. The grey bricks are engraved with the names of those who served, while the red bricks are the names of donors and supporters. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 314 oversees the care of the grounds and the annual Remembrance Day ceremonies held at this location.
***Special thanks to Louise Bellec for her photos and her diligence at compiling the long list of names found on the memorial bricks.
