Coniston

Location:  Greater Sudbury     N 46.48695    W -80.84769

At the  north-west corner of Government Road and Second Avenue.

This memorial is located in a town park on the south side of town.  Coniston is a short distance east of the City of Sudbury, a quiet bedroom community for the larger city.  The memorial was dedicated in 1994 on behalf of the local Branch 427 of the Royal Canadian Legion.  It has two plaques on the front listing the men lost in the two World Wars and also lists the major wars and conflicts that Canada has participated in during its history.  The main body of the memorial is a large black granite stone with the engraved logos of the army, air force, and RCMP, and a slogan representing the navy.  The back of the memorial is dedicated to the service of the RCMP.  An anchor rests on the ground beside the cenotaph, no further info is available about its origins.

In front of the Legion, 141 Highway 20 East.

This memorial is found in front of the Royal Canadian Legion Talbot Trail Branch 613.  It was erected in 1987 and pays tribute to all those who have served.  The message on the fieldstone cairn is very simple, however the stone walkway with dozens of names of local members of the Canadian Forces is a true tribute to the scale of devotion to our country that this community has provided.  The project of filling the stones with names continues to this day.  Each name represents service, honour and duty.  The Legion is a key part of the community that continues to play a huge roll in our Remembrance of our heroes of the past and present.

N 45.33462   W -75.25457

At 461 Limoges Road (CR5) c and Mabel Street.

This memorial was unveiled on November 11, 1988 to honour the veterans from Limoges who served their country and fell during the course of war.  It consists of a brick wall with plaques to commemorate the fallen and those who contributed to the memorial.

Limoges is a small Francophone village of around 2,000 people, located between Embrun and Casselman.  There are very few amenities found in this agricultural area, although it is home to Canada's largest theme waterpark, Calypso Park.
