Fair Valley, Medonte - Sir Sam Steele


Location:  N 44° 38.943 W 079° 35.751   On the 11th Line, north of Fairvalley Church Road.  


SIR SAMUEL BENFIELD STEELE 
First commanding officer of Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians), also know as "Canada's Greatest Police Officer" for his accomplishments with the North West Mounted Police. 
This memorial is located at Purbrook, the family farm of the Steele family. A memorial to his father also appears at this site, along with a picnic area and shelter.
The two stones lying flat on the ground to either side of the main stone, are the French translation of the main stone.
